WHAT THEY ARE SAYING...

FOR GLASS

Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber’s FOR GLASS
(2026) is a new work for 20 dancers set to two string
quartets by renowned minimalist composer Philip
Glass, performed in two acts. In Act I, “Performance
becomes practice”, the dancers embody Smith and
Schraiber’s distinct raw, emotive movement language,
accompanied by Glass’ String Quartet No. 5 (1991). In
Act II, “Practice becomes performance”, sound is
supplied by both the dancers themselves and Glass’
String Quartet No. 3 (Mishima, 1985), as complex,
powerful duets and solos coalesce with deeply
mesmerizing group work, echoing Glass’ signature
rhythm and repetition.
